DEATH (Non-dairy)

by Terry Olynik

Ethan was proud of himself
Having divested his apartment
Of every vestige of her presence.
True it had taken far too long
But the deed was now done
Erasing all visual cues that would
Provoke a maelstrom of memories
And inevitably rivers of acidic tears.

It was his fervently-held belief
That just one more remembrance,
One more suffocating flashback,
And his battered heart would surely explode.
Sadly, a month later, this would be proven true
As he experienced a massive fatal coronary
Upon finding a carton of her damn soy milk
Well-hidden at the back of the refrigerator.
