Desdemona Twerks

by Terry Olynik

The menu explicitly stated
ALL double items
$2 extra.

But when I requested
A double portion of steak
They said it would be
An extra $4.50.

The blonde counter girl
Whose name was Desdemona
Was unable to explain
This dichotomy and summoned
Her supervisor Earl.

Earl seemed preoccupied
With things not of this Earth.
One eye continually drifted left.
And while I considered threatened his life
The sane decision was to leave hoagie-less.
Desdemona smiled cluelessly as I departed.

Waiting to exit the parking lot
I was startled by a knock
On the passenger side window.
I rolling down the window to hear
Desdemona explain, "My real name is Debby!"
As she handed me a flyer stating
Hoagies $6, ALL double items two bucks.
