Deserted by Caitlin SchwartzA long time ago
In a land
Not so far away
A flower petal
Floats solemnly
To the ground.
A hummingbird
Flits from tree to tree
But there are no leaves left.
A stray tabby cat
Wanders down the alley,
No owner to call it home.
A rusted pipe, neglected,
Finally bursts.
Yet no water flows forth.
A shutter creaks
Another hinge comes loose,
As the harsh wind blows.
A cry,
So sudden
Breaks the silence—
A baby sobs.
No mother left
To console it after nightmares.
A clock is about to chime,
Signaling 7:30
But the batteries are dead.
The sun sets
On this desolate place,
A city deserted.
