The Prestige

by Uriel Tovar

The magician takes the stage
In the crowded theater
His hands alluding to
Some greater power than
Himself
Waving left and flaunting
Right in grandiose actions
Mesmerizing his audience
Entrancing them
Enslaving the now attentive drones

And now audience I have this
Lovely beauty
Notice the long legs and sequenced
Dress and please don’t forget
The her smile
In my right hand I have your attention
In the form of an egg
If I may
An egg into a dove
And then a rose from the left
And there we have it folks one
Beauty in two halves

All the while a moment becomes
An hour
And in an hour the whole evening
Is gone
And we melt
Out of our seats and return home
To the real magicians
Pulling the strings.
