To begin

by Uriel Tovar

Oh how it all starts with a smile
With squinty eyes
And a pearly grin
Cheeks becoming mountains to those
Dimpled valleys
Drawing me further into something
Over my head
Like quick sand I can’t
Get away
But to suffocate
Is such a comforting embrace
And I couldn’t
Brace myself more for this
Punch drunk
Love struck floating feeling
To the ground as I’m
Counted out.
