In a Nutshell

by Uriel Tovar

We see it crack
Steadily
Hair line fractures
Cliffs disconnecting
From each other
Letting the tension teach them
How to
Let go
Becoming independent
From the whole
In these fresh chasms
We see magma flowing softly
Bubbling
Stumbling into itself
Failing to fill in the empty spaces
--Nature’s own mediator
Oceans shake and quake
Dancing with the rhythm of
The planet’s gyration
Turning concrete jungle into rubble
A makeshift casket
And through all this
A deafening silence
A moment’s pause
Followed by the most beautiful light ever seen.
