Land Of Contrary

by Scott Utley

Sometimes, I walk along the edges of forgiveness,

But I don’t take the dive.

There are other times I frighten my enemies

With my fierce predatory powers,

Only to succumb to supple generosity of heart,

They in turn become bewildered and confused,

Then grateful and relieved.

In one instant I am the sun,

And in the next instant I am the moon.

I am contrary with paradox;

A quality uniquely human;

A profane trait, as well as one profound.
