Sugar

by Uriel Tovar

You say you're a
Hard pill
To swallow
I say you're Hard
Rock
Candy
Purple and smoky white
Amethyst
Scratchy down my throat
Settling
Like cancer
In my gut.

Anyone who ever put rocks in their mouth as a kid will know what you mean...I can feel them still (though I don't think I ever swallowed) coarse, with a strong desire to spit them out. But here you swallow them down... unpleasant, truly. Nice write amid your decided economy of words. Thanks.

Wow, I can just see this steaming and sizzling as it goes down. Nice write!

Wow! I'd love to see your ode to aspartame after reading some of the horrific reports I just read about it. Fantastic!

Wonderful. Just the right length, and you provide a great contrast from hard pill to candy to cancer.
