Paradoxos

by Scott Utley

There are times

I walk along the edges of forgiveness,

But I don’t take the dive.

There are other times

I frighten my enemies

with my fierce predatory powers,

only to succumb to supple generosity of heart.

They in turn become bewildered and confused,

then grateful and relieved.

In one instant I am the sun,

and in the next instant I am the moon.

I am contrary with paradox,

a quality uniquely human,

a profane trait,

as well as sublime.

Are not all paradoxes the same, both profane and sublime? It seems that each has the other in its existence. Nice write Scott.

I can really relate to this and the inconsistencies in my mind and heart.

I think all of us poets can certainly share in this. I enjoyed this write, especially the first three lines. They really brought me in right away. ~JPP
