The L.A.P.D. Set Margaret Free

by Scott Utley

caramel was her shade of skin

no walls no bars could keep her in

she loved this life for which she fought

from a grocery cart she had not bought

she said she lived on borrowed dreams

sometimes she talked sometimes she screamed

she knew the cop who set her free

he tripped or fell but would not tell

he shot her dead he cracked her head

now she's gone and no one cares

in Hollywood no one dares

Sad really, and it is not just in Hollywood that no one cares..you bring me there and now I wish to do something..thank you!

Took me a while to identify source information for this...
An 'official' version:

Another perspective:

The irony in 'set her free' intensifies the tragedy...
