Relentless cycle

by Timothy Wilson

I watched the sun sink abandoning the blue sky
I felt a vice grip tighter on my lonely heart
I felt the cold truth of night creep onto the world like a silent assassin
And I felt the sting of its nothingness

I watched the masses; chiseled faces looking away
As time tore me apart

It was years before I concluded the universe doesn’t care
I was an orphan
I was a child
I watched unwillingly, the cruel reality unfold before my empty eyes

I am a man
To own to die with nothing
To fight for land that holds no future
To bring children into a world that I have left scathed

I watched the sun rise, shedding light on the bitter truth
Blinding us to look away

I have no idea how you manage to pack sooooo much into so little. But you did.

Grim and riveting.

You are the every man tonight. Any body with a heart has felt this way ... from dawn comes the light of the mid day - the sun as high art... moving right along, I remember Sophie's Choice, and the last line of William Styron's masterpiece, Stingo actually says, the last words, "It is not judgement day. It is morning, excellent and fair." And my friend Don, a psychiatrist in SF had a poster on his wall that simple said, WE CAN ONLY SPEAK OF HOPE.
