Anticipation

by Caitlin Schwartz

Warm winds glow; outside it's bright and sunny.
Lying by the lake; waves lapping the shore,
Jokes float about, times we see as funny.
Procrastination rules; homework's a bore.

The sun is out, we refuse to stay in,
Our time here is now coming to a close.
Is this the end? Or is it time to begin?
Memories we make can't be described in prose.

We are making the most of what we are,
Individuals making our mark out here,
Trying to not be a student, but a star.
Finding a path to which we can steer.

And we'll miss the traditions these gates hold,
But we're moving on from the stories told.

"Memories we make can't be described in prose" is a lovely line. Congrats. :-)

I like the joie de vivre attitude of youth here, the optimism, the fine rhyme scheme. The jokes floating about following the lake line is well done. "Trying to not be a student, but a star." is my favorite line. Congrats on POTD!
