love and love by E. A. PughHalf awake just before the sun
I felt for the mass of pillows I like to keep and arrange.
In my haze one pillow turned out to be
my three year old soft snuggly son in bed with me.
I am blessed to have a pillow sized warm cutie pie beside me.
When he woke we smiled at each other for a long time
Just looking and loving
he held my ear.
I said,
“Hi I thought you were a pillow
I did not know you where sleeping with me.”
He looked at me as if there was something he wished to say
but still we smiled into each other’s eyes.
The next morning I woke to find him in bed with me.
I said,
“good morning sweet little pillow.”
He said,
“no Mommy I am swords and knives”
