Only 70 Per Cent Insane by Ken HarnischYou know what?
I’m beginning to believe rationality
Has no place in love, and that the
Zany things I didn’t do cost me
As much as the sane and simple
Notions I put forth that made
You think me queer
Oh not that way:
I was bold enough in the
Dark with you for you
Never to doubt my
Proclivities as a male
I think in fact you wished
I had saved some of that testosterone
And done something really nuts
Just so you could have
A story to tell your children
I was sent one of
Those bucket list e-mails
The other day. You know,
The one in which fifty wild
Things are listed and you’re supposed
To mark off as many as you’ve done
Well, hey, what do you know:
Sane and safe as I’m reputed to be
I could easily mark off thirty-five
While knowing the other fifteen,
Including jumping out of a
Perfectly functioning airplane,
Were somebody else’s wet dream.
Still, I would like
To have made love on the hood of a Dodge
Or propositioned a business associate
At some meeting in Chicago
Just so I could say I looped the Loop.
And oh yeah:
I wish I had kissed you when
You asked me to
And saved you when you needed me
And I wish there were some way
You knew I felt this way today
But come on: that’s just crazy

| Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 05/10/11 at 12:53 PM Conversational style put to good use Ken. I especially like these lines, with the different connotation of L7 in the same stanza: While knowing the other fifteen,
Including jumping out of a
Perfectly functioning airplane,
Were somebody else’s wet dream. Excellent looping the loop in that closing line.
