drive by conversations

by Kimberly Bowen

I have no eloquent collaborations
Of words to describe
Everything that is going on inside
This shattered little hope filled heart of mine
All I have is your face frozen on my mind
And your every edge I’'ve silently memorized
Somewhere between the synapses
Firing off signals from heart to brain
I'’ve lost all means of expression
But a smile and a slight wave
You'’ve completely undone this façade
I’'ve spent years delicately perfecting
And all these words I'’ve taken to heart
Are trapped behind paralyzed lips
No motion, no plan I stand entrapped
By the intrigue you have intricately spun
Around this little heart and brain
I stand burning with envy
To dive into your soul, simmer in your heart
In a way our drive by conversations don’t permit
