Shoveling

by Ken Harnisch

It has always seemed to me labor should
Have a higher purpose. One virtuous but not
Necessarily repetitive to make it worthy of
A providential God.

I swear I hefted a shovel
To rid us of the
Same snow last Saturday,
But I’m also sure
I was not forgiven any of my sins.

Ah Ken, to have "sins" cleared one must attend to the "sin master". I understand he currently relaxing on a sunny island somewhere near middle earth!

Ken...and did you sing to the shovel, loving it (the labour)...? This came to mind because on observing the word 'shoveling' I noticed it contains a secret or two. Are you sure there are sins to be forgiven? Your poem makes me smile. But then, I'm not the one who's doing the shoveling. I did enjoy your poem though. Thank you for writing it...*m.a

LOL! Well spoken sir. I truly feel sorry for all my neighbors on the eastern seabord, states and provinces alike. This year the Gulf Stream is much further south bringing with it the blizzards we often get here in Ottawa.
