crosshairs

by Mary Frances Spencer

all over the map

anger
unmanaged mental illnesses
gun sales
flourishing

graphs of forclosed pies
all cut up
no one biting

homeless uninsured
under-employed

frustrations only build
division

fingers point
rifles like video games

erase another innocent
as we devolve

why cant we
stop sniping
set our sights

even a little

higher

Author's Note: I'm feeling a lot of angst about the energies being spent on divisive politics and overall lack of unity in this country. Anyone else?

I'm afraid we haven't seen the worst of it yet. I don't mean to be pessimistic I just think that the more people out of work and those losing homes will inspire a rise in the hostility of the extremes in this country. We aren't mature enough to handle it and come together.

A few years back, I made a mental note and a prediction that this was the direction we are headed. Hopefully the rest of my prediction is far less correct.

Absolutely. Although I don't share the same level of pessimism as the others. Wonderful write.
