TUCSON (A Sad Repost) by Terry OlynikI taste
The desert
On
My tongue.
Sonoran sweetness.
I feel
The heat
Across
My eyelids.
Sonoran fire.
Let me
Dance
In your
Cottonwood canyons.
Let me
Genuflect
In your
Saguaro cathedrals.
On terra
Navaho.
In sunset
Barrio.
On terra
Apache.
In arroyos
Refreshed.
At Sabino
And
San Xavier,
Under
Raptor's gaze.
Star mantled
Pueblo,
Dusty
Serpent's lair,
Let me
Water
Your
Thirsty heart.
Let me
Soothe
Your
Sunburned soul. 01/12/2011

| Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 01/13/11 at 03:33 AM This poem really is exquisite, as is that area. Much beauty is coming out of this recent tragedy, and I have to latch onto that: heartfelt mourning for the families, support from all over, strong resistance to the Westport Baptist nuts, perhaps a jarring reminder that we cannot sit idly by on our good intentions. |
