there are no villains here

by Vikki Owens

i thought i knew who
the villain of this film was,
so sure that the motes of dust
in the projectors light
shown a spotlight on your twisted face
and fiendish sneer.
but there are no villains here,
only heartsick love-strucks
and vagabonds, rag-dolls
and junkies with pain in their heart
and film on their eyes.
so many wayfarers wandering here,
back and forth, just searching for
a spoon and a needle
or the equivalent of,
what ever drug that may be to them.
there are so many drugs these days,
because everyone's in pain,
and to fade away is everyone's sweetest wish,
fold your hands to pray,
god-fearing soul-seekers, begging to invisible
holy-ghosts to save their soul
and to take
this heartache away.
