To the Newly Liberated by Ken HarnischDon’t dwell in the darkness, but remember it
It may have been your choice to be unlinked
But it was his to leave you unappreciated
And if there’s anything fair in life, it is that
Karma brings righteous insult to the injurer
Eventually in time’s good time.
Stay strong knowing you did the right thing
And when, on cold and lonely nights, a child
Cries in your arms, bring her closer still
And she will remember you, against whose breast she trembled,
Loved her in the worst of times, and was always there
She may not recall the whip of his voice; its cannonade;
He may, as time softens the worst of what he is
Even seem to her a god. But false gods are like leopards:
They seldom change their spots, and he is only an outraged
Hymn away from bringing back all that made your exit holy.
It is a brave thing to walk away when others think you odd
It is braver still to know something in your heart
And takes its fierce message home to a courageous end
This is not finale here, just the first clean page in
A brand new book, the one which you alone are author
Knowing that, always remember this:
You may be lonely for a time, but you will never be alone.
