Ye Old Western Union Telegram by Ken HarnischYour Uncle Harold is dead. Stop.
We tried to revive him but could not. Stop.
I gave him mouth to mouth. Stop.
I did it for you, not for him. Stop
The lawyer says you will get money. Stop.
No, I don’t know how much. Stop.
Will being read Monday. Stop.
I won’t be there. Stop.
Too many people think the kiss
I gave your uncle was more than the kiss of life.
Stop. If you know what I mean. Stop.
Okay, so let them think what they will. Stop.
I’ve had it with small, petty, made-up minds. Stop.
The good news is your husband is one of those
Who think I may have gone over to the dark side. Stop.
As you can guess, I am encouraging this thinking. Stop.
Now I can’t stop laughing. Stop.
PS I love you. Stop.

Posted by George Hoerner on 04/20/10 at 12:00 PM Yes, but it is a very cute whimsy! And, the format has many possibilities. Nicely done.
Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 04/20/10 at 02:57 PM Hilarious, dark, a bit kinky, and the telegram idea is brilliant.
Posted by Alison McKenzie on 04/20/10 at 03:22 PM Very clever Ken!!! *giggling* As a format, genius! And the content itself is cute as well :)
Posted by Joan Serratelli on 04/20/10 at 05:41 PM This is GREAT! Soooo much fun to read- STILL laughing...
Posted by Therese Elaine on 04/22/10 at 04:06 PM Ken, this delivers, not only a nostalgic pang from my childhood of old movies on TCM, but a laugh at the wit and the method of relaying a humorous story through such succinct bits of telegraph phraseology. Thank you for all of it!!!
Posted by Julie Adams on 04/25/10 at 05:56 PM what an intriguing little piece, how it tells and doesn't...I love the line "I’ve had it with small, petty, made-up minds."--how I wish I wrote that!! peace n poems to u, jewels xoxox
