Acapella by Kim Thevenoti know, star, how you streak across the
night sky horizontally
refusing to leave from view
I see the white calm of you
becoming electric as you speed
across the deep endless space
some say you smell of pine as you sail by
but i know you smell of spice and
i feel out of place, under a sky that
is so obviously yours
the view of you is poisonous
consuming and bitter to the core
of me, a girl feeling older each day
who knows that more than one
looks up and sees you
and is fully aware that no one
looks down and sees my face angled up.

| Posted by Amie Golda on 03/06/10 at 01:59 PM Beautifully vivid ode to the stars. Nature poems often bear the same tone. And though this is in praise of celestial nature it is very much different. A lone acapella amidst a thriving orchestra is often more beautiful than any well played instrument. And I love that you allude to that beauty here, both implicitly and explicitly in your tone and form. Well done! |
