24 hour fitness by Mary Frances Spencerstriding into flat screens
crunching silver machinery
lifting the bars
window framed work-outs
and I sitting
at the red light
see a bright gym
full of people
going
nowhere
01/28/2010 Author's Note: Just an observation here! Those treadmills do seem to be very popular... MFS

There is something very haiku like in the second stanza - to my mind it stands as a poem in its own right too. Love it. |
| Posted by Therese Elaine on 01/29/10 at 07:46 PM I really like that you were able to create such a sharp and detailed image with such precision and you didn't waste a single word!! You know it's funny, I was driving past one of those places the other night -and weirdly enough it's on the second floor of this huge, renovated old building here in Chicago -and I remember thinking how surreal it looked, all of these people going nowhere but at the same time, looking as though they were going to burst forth out of the glass and take flight at any moment...

| Posted by Nicole D Gregory on 01/29/10 at 08:04 PM Shoot! I just knew no one was ever paying attention to all of us hamsters on our wheels... this proves otherwise ;) And, in a very well versed piece. So I have to ask: Does this poetry make my butt look fat? Ha!Ha! ~N |
| Posted by Charlie Morgan on 01/29/10 at 11:51 PM ...i, like Ms Boling, see a place where it's on the second floor[windowed-in] and it does look a tad bit strange...tho' i walk, heart patient, i still see the surreal-ness of it all. |
| Posted by Alisa Js on 03/28/10 at 01:56 AM makes you wonder sometimes, what ever happened to the joy of walking outdoors????
lol... |
| Posted by Mo Couts on 06/28/11 at 07:03 PM Awesome, and true...something about the treadmill is addicting, even though I can't quite put my finger on it, lol. |
