Momentary Lapse In Judgement

by Terry Olynik

Reflecting on the lives, now mostly played out,
Of my various friends and many acquaintances.
How almost everyone's life condition and situation
Has been sealed and set, by one momentary lapse in judgement.

The defining instant they chose against all logic:
To quit that stable well-paying job,
To marry that "changeable" person,
To put off that doctor's appointment,
To get behind the wheel of that car,
To write that fated cheque,
To not return that phone call,
To allow that irrefutable love to wither.

Lives and fates forever sealed and set
By one momentary lapse in judgement.

This is true...I wonder how many of us recognize those fated moments that forever changes things.
