Time Bandit by Terry OlynikAge stalked me unsuccessfully
From the moment of my emergence,
Every second, hour, day and year.
Through each successive decade,
I laughed defiantly in the face
Of it's hectoring futile persistence.
Then one unguarded summer evening
During a drunken fitful sleep,
Age appeared at the foot of my bed.
It crawled silently under my skin
Filling me to near bursting
With every one of my previous days. 12/05/2009 Posted on 12/05/2009 Copyright © 2025 Terry Olynik

| Posted by George Hoerner on 12/05/09 at 06:24 PM Very nicely done Terry. It does seem to catch up with us in one way or another. It found me first a number of years ago when I fell ice skating in NJ. It has been after ever since. I hide but never well enough. Again great write! |

| Posted by Heide McAlister-Bates on 12/11/09 at 01:30 PM I read a lot of poetry, and and I like much of what I read. Every once in a while, though, I read a poem that I not only appreciate, but that I can immediately identify with. This is one of those poems. Succinct, well-crafted, and timeless. Would that we all were. |
