The Response to "I Love You" by Lyss CopelandI will hurt you, my dear:
I'm a heart taker on the verge
of collapse. Sorry to say it,
but you're nothing exceptional.
Your only hope is the piece
of you that I take is enough.
Don't even bother with revenge:
I don't have a heart for you
to break. You're a bit too late,
so enjoy what you can, because
all I have left for you is fractured:
If you look carefully, you can see
the names of those before
you, shining from mismatched
colored glass that pierce me to
the bone, trying to form some
monstrous being that can feel again.
I will break you, bit by bit:
If the piece I take from you
doesn't fit, I will make it fit.
It's the least I can do for
breaking you in the first place.
... Do you still love me? 09/24/2009 Posted on 09/24/2009 Copyright © 2025 Lyss Copeland

| Posted by Ken Harnisch on 09/25/09 at 01:54 PM wow..this one hurts...perhaps because, long ago, but vividly remembered, I was on the receiving end after uttering those very words by a personality much like the one you describe so vividly in this master work. Astonishing poem. Sobering, too. |
