Of Trash and Treasure

by Timothy Wilson

Cleaning the bottom of my car
Was the hardest thing I’ve done
There were water bottles from the night on top the hospital
Overlooking an ocean romance
Underlying fears of losing her

The gum wrapper from the night I was insecure
Smoking too much
And scaring you to my destiny
Thanks for the fresh breath

Under the floor mats
Moved from the most intensive of love making
Beach sand from the night you told me
What my ear was aching for

IN this majestic trash pile I found a tube of your old lipstick
Sparkling bright as the stars that night we first kissed
Your hairs had blown to my back seat
And in this trash
This treasure
I found the answers to it all
In love and life
