Sweet Torture

by Alisa Js

I should have looked away earlier
But didn’t,
Sitting nearby on the glistening white beach
With the sound of the ocean
Behind me,
I couldn’t help myself
And continued to stare,
Hoping nobody noticed

He placed his hand next to her face
And moved closer,
his body now right along hers
She turned toward him and smiled
A sexy smile,
He began to reach over and caress
As she pulled on her bikini
I knew what came next …

I remember those days
I told myself,
sitting here alone on this beautiful sand
Reflecting on a promise I made
As I ponder this dark strand of hair across my face,
Trying to be coy
But for whom, exactly?
As you are there, ten thousand miles away

And I miss you more than I should say here
Sweet torture, my new best friend
On days like this when reminders abound,
It’s all I can do to stay sane …

You definitely have that thin rope to hold onto captured here. Your imagery in this is just outstanding, and I really like the way the ending kind of leaves it all up in the air.

...gabe is right alisaJs...what a creative way to title this surreal memory...a happy tear kind of thought...you snagged that moment in time...

I am jealous you live in such a beautiful place alisa. The poem is lovely and colorful and clearly imparts the loneliness of missing another person. Nice.

Your words capture and take one there, inside the imagery, inside the sweet tortures ... Lovelylovely write. hugs*m.a
