An Odyssey

by Lyss Copeland

I drift away into a world not real.

Hand in hand, I start with my lips
resting gently upon your forehead.
The winds set sail through my hair as
I begin my journey into waters unknown,
to explore places that I long to discover
by touch and sight; and the sound of your
voice entices me through the craggy rocks
known as your eyes, stone gray in the light.
They threaten to wreck me as I stare deep
into the water, wading throughout the
cliffs, hoping to reach the other side
before the beauty of your smooth
lips, marked by your crooked
smile, causes my ship to
fall away; before I can dock my soul into your
heart and lay it there to rest,
never to sail again.
