A long winter

by Vikki Owens

The shadows are long,
and I am wondering
where mine has gone.

It feels like my heart is frozen.
It feels like my heart
is making silent tracks in the snow.

I feel like the man searching for warmth in
'To build a fire'.
I feel like my next breath might freeze on my lips..
my next word might freeze in my throat.

Icicles hang off my eaves
and they feel like daggers to me.
I am wondering why the sun is so bright
but my world is so cold.
Frost collects
and spreads.

i love this, how it talks, how it feels...every stanza blossoms through the snow...loved "my next breath might freeze on my lips../ my next word might freeze in my throat."...I look forward to reading more of your work, kudos, peace, jewels
