Like This

by Alisa Js

and have we digressed?
thoughtless words carelessly tossed
under one's breath when you think I can't hear
fueling rage,
battered about like emotional napalm
burning
long beyond the impact,
scarring
smoldering underneath
this heart, this beating start.
of what I thought I knew
yet now, unsure
no longer steady
or secure

how can you think this doesn't matter
dropping blizzards of doubt,
building walls that can only divide.
tinged with what's certain to only be
disgust and despair,
regret rears it's slimy head
in place of what used to strut as
compassion
understanding
mixed with a modicum of care,
or so I once believed

never again
never like this,
we must stay aware of the snare
of subtle resentment
hovering,
patiently waiting to strike
like this ...

WOW! Alisa this is really good. So much of our communication remains in the mind and long after comes back to spew its venom and sour relatoinships. At some point they must be talked out and not lightly tossed away. They don't go easily.
