Rising In Your Wake by Genevieve Sturrocksomeone along the way
must have told you
you were the best
you have striven so
to prove it true
you stand tall
face tilted toward the sky
surveying the world
down the elongated
bridge of your nose
and when you cross paths
with one who does not
recognize your stature
you rest in your assurance
that with deft jocularity
your venomous tongue
will eviscerate
the miscreant
thus escalating your
delusions of grandeur
as you bask in the
jovial adulation of
your disciples
you turn away
ignorant of the
growing animosity
at your back
pride goeth before a fall
be wary of those
rising in your wake 09/02/2008 Author's Note: i have often wondered just who falls behind pride...the prideful or those in the way.

| Posted by A. Paige White on 09/02/08 at 08:24 PM Great reminder in the battles of pride against pride, there is no winner. Unless the loser learns from the loss, then it becomes a win in humility.... very detailed and intricate look at it! Who among us does not suffer from it at some time or through some ordeal in their lives? |
| Posted by George Hoerner on 09/02/08 at 08:44 PM Ah yes, we all need to be reminded that we are not as great, smart, or interesting as we think we are. Well done lady. |
