imperfect little mysterious things

by Terry Olynik

she always used a knife-edged letter opener
wielding it
with an exaggerated flourish to open even the most mundane mail
yet
she always begged off carving the turkey
reiterating a firm belief that it could only end
in
predestined bloodshed and ultimately
two
lifeless carcasses.
