She Had a Bad Day, I Had a Great Night

by Genevieve Sturrock

in this fast paced
instant gratification world
we find ourselves
swept away in
the lack of
humane kindness
is taken for granted

we are too busy
to notice or
make ourselves care
and nobody
wants that kind
of attention
from strangers
anymore, right?

so my bright smile and
'do you need some help?'
was met with
surprised and
grateful tears
and i started
crying too

to connect
for just a moment
a need is met
for both of us
she realized
that someone cared
and i

i am gratified
that i can still
make a difference
just by
being kind

You are such a treasure. I just love you.
