What I saw in you

by Vikki Owens

What I saw in you
was a boy with piano-bound hands,
and such a quick smile
and a quick wit
and miles and miles of best-laid-plans.

What I saw in you
was a heart that fell just beyond
the horizon
of all that I knew and I know now
and forever, and on.

What I saw in you
was eyes that were wise to much more
than the world that I saw
and the world that I see
and all the myriad things that was before,

Before I knew you,
before I saw you
before I loved you
before you were you
we were something that was

what I saw in you
the first day I met you in a strange circumstance
and that first day
was the first time
of my first step
stepping feet first off of chance.

A fascinating look at the development of a relationship.
