shift summer

by Mary Frances Spencer

high gear low tide
time for time
sand slow down
hourglass still
a steady trickle

our hands
do not belong
on the
clock

but cupped around
each precious
diamond
moment

Much truth and wisdom here; and strong reminder of my own life and loves across the speeding years.

i really enjoyed the first stanza the most, and the concept is bittersweet - nice job!

I remember I couldn't wait to grow up, but after a certain point, the sands of time moved faster and faster. Now I wish they would slow down. Yes, holding on to something precious makes someone wonder where time is going. I love the sentiment that you want to hold on to your kids, while the knowledge you have is that you can't stop time's hands. Time can be a cruel taskmaster we all serve.
