Gila Bend Epiphany

by Terry Olynik

Sitting on the bumper of her over-heated car an interchange away from Gila Bend and frozen margaritas
Her mind inevitably drifted towards thoughts of him, something she had managed to avoid all day.
She thought of his guitar pick collection, his empty Dos Equis bottles on the kitchen counter
And his uncanny ability to make her laugh, despite herself, on her blackest of days.
He always claimed he wore his heart on his sleeve, but only now did she realize
She had never, in all their days together, seen him wear a long-sleeve shirt.
