Lunatic Shame

by Alisa Js

I'm beginning to wonder now
if I have simply lost my mind,
stretched out beneath this tendril taut
we tell ourselves,
we walk against the words, those words
from years and days
still hanging hard
crush the vine
we say we love,
on those awkward days gathered here
around this hour of straight denial,
I can hear it in the lyre when played
your lips, your arms
I see it in your eyes,
I heard it in their smiles
those comments never lie when spoken
directed at the setting sun...

and it's never what we think we observe
there is so much going on, underground
behind closed doors
yet, I'm the fool who listened with my heart burst open wide
and drank it all, stepped aside, as life went on
and now all passing by,
I have stopped, sat down to hesitate
my specialty
my epitaph
my legacy,
the end of me...

One of these days, you're gonna have to write something that's just terrible. Just so you can even things out a little. Heh.
