The Age of Contemplation

by Ken Harnisch

You’ve lost that touch
That loving feeling
Your poems don’t rocket off the heart
As once they did every time
I found your name
There are more thoughts now than emotion
More depth than honesty
You’ve put polysyllabic constructions
Over feelings you once expressed so
Beautifully in words that were
Shorter than a breath.

And I just turned around to her
And said, If the reason to write
Such beauty ever returns to me
I will write it. For now, bear with
My intellect, for this is the Age of
Contemplation.

Well done Ken. The balance we rarely find between feeling and the more abstact intellect. The diffenece between being in the moment and above it. Nice write.

I feel these past few months very much as this poem describes it Ken. Thanks for putting it so eloquently into words.
