Somebody I Love Lives Here! by David GarnerIt is not ours yet, but soon.
Still yours, but soon.
I long for that day,
but still I say,
"Somebody I love lives here!"
I will run naked in this living room.
Natal as I in my mother's womb.
Reborn I am, yet not yet born.
I scream. I shout. I cry,
"Somebody I love lives here!"
In these halls and in these floors
and through the walls and unhinged doors,
"Somebody I love lives here!"
I will build a sign for everyone to see.
Like a realty sign. Or carved on a tree.
Or on the rooftop. Or on the lawn.
On the sidewalk. And on and on.
And on and on. And on and on.
"Somebody I love lives here!"
And on snowy days when the windows steam.
And to draw with my fingers still writes like a dream.
"Somebody I love lives here!"
Or outside you are walking the dog or watering plants.
You look up to see just by chance.
As I draw in my hot breath,
backwards so you can see from the other side,
"Somebody I love lives here!"
