defeated poker face

by Kimberly Bowen

Dew catches on intricate lace webs
Spun by spiders in the lazy hours
Before even the fishers set out to sea
The sun brazenly shines about them
Illuminating everything one couldn’t see

Hearts pulse in the harsh tempo
Of stormy whitecaps enveloping the sands
With just a flicker of a few fingers
Moving horizontally along his clothed back
Exploding tinkers of fire no one could see

A jar full of colorfully disguised secrets
Laid buried beneath china glass masks
In a vase on a shelf one inch too high
For curious passersby to stop and discover
To accidentally uncover and look upon

There is a stutter in her vocabulary
As green skies forewarn twisters touching ground
With an up curve of his lip, a spark in his eye
She knows her heart will one last time unlace
Revealing everything so only he could see
