Iulia by David Garnerall the things we never said
because we couldn't
your English was not so good
my Russian was beyond not there
I learned phonetically to say I want to kiss you right now
yah-haht-choo-paht-silla-vah too-beh
so I'd just say that
and you'd just laugh
and then the silence of
all the things we never said
followed by the eyedance
and the cheekquivers
and then we'd kiss
we'd kiss a lot
and after a while I'd say it again
and we'd repeat the cycle 03/10/2008 Posted on 03/10/2008 Copyright © 2025 David Garner

| Posted by Nicole D Gregory on 03/10/08 at 07:08 PM What a great piece! I wonder if there are any Russian men wandering around Chicago that I can try that on... oh wait... there would be consequences, huh?... ;o) Really well done!!! ~N |
| Posted by Kathleen Wilson on 03/10/08 at 10:54 PM Love that expression--"beyond not there". And of course--that extended kiss, and the syllables that provoke it. I did not check the Russian translation, and I trust it is right... and not a monty python guide to convenient phrases.I just love any poem that says "yah-haht-choo-paht-silla-vah too-beh"... it gives me "cheekquivers". |
