Julie Christie & Joni Mitchell

by David Garner

Julie Christie and Joni Mitchell
came to my house today.

We ate green tomato sandwiches on
roasted red pepper focaccia
with goat cheese and basil.

Joni crossed to the window
and smoked half a cigarette.

"I feel like painting!"

No one responded.

Julie pulled out a couple of packets
of raw brown sugar.

"I'm in the mood for black tea."

No one responded.

I stepped to the bookshelf.

"Do you like Astrology?"

"Of course."
"My God! I love it."

We read for hours from a big thick book.

We discovered we were all compatible with each other.

I love older women.

You're just wonderful and they are lucky they can stop by at your house. Fascinating and unusual, this sounds like it's made of dream logic, and so it's a dream sandwich, with you in the middle.
