Illusions and Things

by Alisa Js

I think you like to keep me guessing
throw me a line and I dive right in
like always
searching for the bait on the end of the hook
running for the first thing that looks like affection
feels more like rejection
this cat and mouse game
one day I'm soaring above heaven's door
the next, nowhere
it's the same old song
same old dream
you'd think by now, I'd be a bit wiser
having noticed these sign posts before
but I keep hoping, I guess
pressing my way
the truth is too harsh to bear
I simply look the other way
although I've known it all along
and I won't say it here
except to acknowledge
I understand
always have
these delusions in spite of illusions ....

...alisaJ, i concur w/ joe [and ain't even a lawyer] this is an applique that i can place over many areas of melife, girls, women and people in their entirety...constantly being fooled when the illusion turns to [just] delusion, one of those pomes i wished i'd penned...peace, chaz

This poem grabbed me on the very first line and kept me hooked to use your analogy. Very good!

Having found myself at either/or/and end of this hook, I thoroughly enjoyed the view of it.

like the knowing ... yet the heart keeps leaping in the hope that illusions and delusions come undone ... to find reality ... *m.a

Alisa, there is such a tragic beauty in the way you express the emotional see-saw. Tragic in the fact that it's happening. Beautiful by the fact that you finally understand the games being played and your refusal (even still wanting to believe that things could be different) to play along. This kind of wisdom always hurts. Here's to gentle healing in the passage of time.

Congratulations on POTD. Even at my age I enjoy the occasional delusion. But reality always strikes back.
