[Lyrics] Better Me Than You by Nikki RiceIn motion in late afternoon,
I'm heading toward the east;
running from the daylight -
I'm alone at least.
I think I might hit ninety
on the narrow open road ahead.
It's empty, just like me,
just like my heart and head.
Yesterday, I had it all;
the day before that I was broke.
It goes, it comes, it goes -
why count this cruel, cruel joke?
I sold my whole at wholesale
and now I'm upside down;
I had a soul, I saw it fail,
and now I've lost my crown.
I read a thousand books
about turning on a light;
that's a lot to flip a switch
and it just don't seem right.
It's sad to leave with nothing left...
I left a leaf for you to turn...
I couldn't do it, do it, no,
I could only watch it burn.
{chorus}
Take what I could never hold
Hold it in your arms
Arms that comfort everyone
Everyone that I can't be
Be for them a better me
A better me
That I can't be
A better me 12/18/2007 Author's Note: New song.

| Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 01/12/08 at 02:22 AM Superb intro stanza that hooks the reader/listener into the addictive melody. To me these lines are the very heart of the piece: I sold my whole at wholesale and now I'm upside down; Reminds though of that old Steppenwolf song, It's Never Too Late To Start All Over Again. Excellent humanity throughout. :o)
