Leaving Again by Alisa JsIts always sad when they go
And youre left behind
Watching
Those lights fade as they drive away
And that lump comes up,
You know the one there in your throat
As you turn and walk back inside
Driving our loved ones to meet their flight
We hustle and bustle in and out of freeway lanes
Conversations full as we inch ever closer
Memories shared, promises made
Pull up to the gate and here it comes, again
That bittersweet hollow and emptiness churns
Climbing up from your toes
Why does that happen?
All of a sudden,
When just moments before, happy hearts
Then comes the utterance, better get going
And your smile gets ripped from the inside down...
It never changes
That dispiriting wave
Cascading our souls with sadness
We stand as we stagger, bravely
Fighting back that deluge of blue
Well see them again, won't we
No guarantees but rather a fervent hope
Just like rain on a hot summers eve
Just like that first kiss,
Maybe
