Sapphire Tears

by Alisa Js

Waking up from a dream
I hung back just out of sight
As she stumbled there by the window’s blind
How her tears sat quiet
On her cheeks, perfect in that afternoon light
I could have sworn they looked just like sapphire

Echoes roll through where laughter once lived
And I knew I had to be witnessing
A life-changing event of several magnitudes
Silicon valleys and dips,
Where is the music when you’re all out of booze
It was still winter when I last checked

I remember walking into your room
There you were, in all your glory
Seductive and savvy like always
There was only one small difference I failed to notice
Her car, parked out front
How could you?

I walked to the side of the bed
And waited while she watched you deceive …
