The Ending

by Alisa Js

I am faced with
The end of my days
Spring blossoms have faded
Summer is past,
Autumn beckons with its wicked glow
Or is that a pallor of passing …
Staring straight, unblinking
Crimson red
Shades of gray,
Creeping around every crevice I find
Careful to examine with these
Tired and dimming portals,
Was I the fool to want to believe
Aim to achieve
To step once again through doors long shut
And banned from my world
With vague recollections leading
Guiding me on the wings of an angel
The angel of extinction
Though I didn’t see
With these obscured and sullied optics
The fire below
I mistakenly thought it promise, illuminated …

Such nice alliteration entwined with haunting imagery. Very well done sweet Alisa!
