Ocular Albinism by David Garneryour eyes are eyes that dart and shift
they settle to unsettle
they aim to steal, their goal to grift
their mettle is of metal
they settle to unsettle
they lie and misconceive
their mettle is of metal
their strength is they deceive
they lie and misconceive
they thrive on masks of figment
their strength is they deceive
they drain all life and pigment
they thrive on masks of figment
they aim to steal, their goal to grift
they drain all life and pigment
your eyes are eyes that dart and shift

| Posted by Kathleen Wilson on 11/25/07 at 08:35 PM While this ("ocular albinism"is a known malady this poem steps out beyond into the slippery deep unknown of what eyes can hide and seek. The extensive hypnotic word playfulness, the colliding of edges of meaning and opposites, the magician's flush of wonder that thrives on such as "masks of figment"... the "grift" (what a great word here) by these eyes exhausts with seeming intententioal swindling... amazing you got this so well in a poem... like shifting eyes... best kept there, not on your gentle visage. |
