Desdemona Smiles

by Terry Olynik

I , preparing supper,
She, reading the newspaper
Both, listening to a Neil Young tune
On the stereo.
Suddenly, "It Came Upon A Midnight Clear"
Fills the living room.

In seconds, we both find ourselves
Racing to the receiver,
Her hand over mine on the tuning dial
To change the station.
We settle on Van Morrison, "Caravan",
And Desdemona smiles.
